The 2024 IVS data has been recalibrated using the revised weighting methodology introduced from the March 2025 quarter. This update ensures greater consistency and comparability between the 2024 and 2025 IVS series.
As a result of the recalibration the percentage changes in expenditure estimates between the years ending December 2024 and December 2025 are now more closely aligned with the corresponding changes in international visitor arrivals.
The revised estimates for the year ending December 2024 have been incorporated into the June 2026 IVS release. The recalibration does not materially affect total international visitor expenditure or most market-level results. The main impacts are confined to the China and Rest of Asia markets.
Compared with the previously published 2024 estimates, expenditure attributed to:
- China was changed to $1.1 billion (9 percent of total spend) from $1.4 billion (12 percent of total spend)
- Rest of Asia was changed to $1.53 billion (12 percent of total spend) from $1.45 billion (13 percent of total spend)
No revisions have been made to the 2023 data, as international travel patterns had not yet sufficiently stabilised during that period to support the application of the revised weighting approach.
