The numbers for emissions from the aviation sector are collected as part of the Delivery of Petroleum Fuel by Industry (DPFI) survey conducted by MBIE, which contains 100% of the aviation fuel markets that Aotearoa New Zealand participates in. The distinction between domestic and international flights is based on the refuelling terminal (the number of international flights with a domestic segment is considered to be negligible). These data are published publicly in the Ministry for the Environment's Greenhouse Gas Inventory.
