Domestic Satisfaction Report

February 25, 2021

Tourism Industry Aotearoa (TIA) released the Domestic Satisfaction Report year ending December 2020. See below an introduction and please visit TIA’s website for the full article.

“TIA’s Domestic Satisfaction Report series was commissioned to monitor domestic travellers’ perceptions of their travel within New Zealand as a tracking mechanism for the Tourism Sustainability Commitment. The TSC uses international and domestic satisfaction as a key sustainability indicator. The COVID-19 pandemic has changed Kiwis’ domestic travel habits and we are loving holidaying at home. TIA’s latest Domestic Visitor Satisfaction survey, carried out by Angus & Associates, has found that in the second half of 2020, half of New Zealand’s population travelled domestically for a holiday or short break, despite Alert Level restrictions during some of that period. This was up from 42% in July-December 2019. More New Zealanders visited Queenstown, Bay of Plenty and Central Otago compared to the same period in 2019, although a smaller proportion visited Northland and Wellington. And Kiwis were more satisfied with their domestic travel, with 63% rating their trip a 9 or 10 out of 10 (up from 58%).”
