The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) produces detailed estimates of greenhouse gas emissions from New Zealand’s energy sector, including transport, electricity generation, and fuel use. These statistics provide insight into emissions trends across the energy system and form a key input into New Zealand’s Greenhouse Gas Inventory.

The Greenhouse Gas Inventory, led by the Ministry for the Environment, is used by Stats NZ to publish greenhouse gas emissions statistics that show emissions by industry, households, tourism, and consumption, allowing emissions to be analysed in relation to economic activity.
